The following steps have been shown to work (in most cases) to quit and uninstall MacKeeper.

  1. Restart the computer
  2. Press and hold the “shift” key as soon as you hear the chime while it's starting up (this starts the computer in Safe Mode) and keep holding "shift" until you see the login screen or the desktop
  3. Make sure that there is no MacKeeper icon in the top task bar
    • 
    If the icon is there, try restarting the same way (press and hold "shift") again.
  4. Open Finder
  5. Open the Applications folder
  6. Find MacKeeper and drag it to the trash
  7. Right-click the trash icon and click Empty Trash
  8. Restart the computer
  9. MacKeeper should now be uninstalled
